I strongly believe that your bedroom should be your sanctuary. The one place where you can really relax and feel at peace. You know that feeling when you walk into a hotel room and collapse on that crisp, fluffy, white bed? It smells so nice and feels so nice that you get the best sleep of your life. So why can't you have that experience in your own bedroom? I have been working hard the last few years to try and make my bedroom as zen as possible. You don't have to spend a ton of money to have a 5-star experience in your own room. We sleep every night, so why not make it as enjoyable as possible? So here are a few ways to make your bedroom feel a little more like a hotel spa and a little less chaotic.

1. Invest in your bedding

I think that if you are going to spend excess money anywhere it should be on your bed. A good nights sleep is priceless- especially in college. I think the most important things are a really good mattress topper and a thick down comforter, preferably a white one. This will replicate that "hotel bed' feeling.

2. Essential oil diffuser

Essential oils are a simple and inexpensive way to instantly make your room feel like a spa. I really like to use a diffuser that is water based so that it also works to slightly humidify the room. My favorite oils to use for a spa atmosphere are lemon, eucalyptus, lavender and peppermint. They will really make you sleep like a baby.

3. Switch to silk pillowcases

If you aren't already sleeping on silk pillow cases, you need to start now. They are amazing for your hair and your skin, not to mention they feel amazing. To save some money, I only have silk pillow cases on the pillows I sleep directly on. There is no need to spend the crazy money on the name brand silk pillow cases, you can buy 100% silk ones on amazon for less than half the price.

4. Pillow spray

To add another layer of ~luxury~ I like to spritz my pillow with a relaxing scent before bed. This helps me fall asleep quickly and adds to the atmosphere.

5. Hotel robe

Switching your regular robe out for a hotel style robe makes such a difference. That white, waffle fabric robe that you get at the spa is really not as expensive as you might think. Putting one on after a hot shower and getting in the bed is one of the best feelings in the world.

6. Coffee bar

Ok, so I know this might sound weird but move your coffee maker to your bedroom. Imagine rolling out of bed, and making a fresh cup of coffee without even leaving your room. I like to set my alarm 15 min early and enjoy my coffee in bed first thing in the morning. Nothing says vacation more than laying in a fluffy white bed with a fresh cup of coffee. Who says you can't do that every day at home?

7. Silk pajamas

I also love to sleep in a silk nightshirt. It just feels so nice to put on after a shower and crawl into bed. It really is these simple changes that make your nighttime routine feel like a spa day.

8. Lots of plants

I try to put as many plants as I can in my bedroom. One; they are pretty, but two; they help naturally filter the air. Having better air quality is really important, especially in a stuffy college apartment.

9. Eucalyptus

In my bathroom I love adding fresh eucalyptus. I get my fresh eucalyptus from Trader Joe's every few weeks for only $2.99. When I can't find it I try to add some faux eucalyptus. It really makes the bathroom look and smell like a spa.

10. Sample size products

Last, but not least, I like to keep sample sized toiletries in my bathroom for guests. I have friends over all the time and it is nice to have a little something for them. After all, what says hotel more than free shampoo!
